Ameristar Kansas City Donates Unused Slot Vouchers to Domestic Violence Survivors and Their Families
4/18/2023
Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City team members and guests recently raised money to benefit a
featured local community resource, Rose Brooks Center.
Rose Brooks Center was established in October of 1978, and by 1979 the emergency
shelter opened with just 19 beds. Over the last 40 years, the non-profit has
grown into the largest on-site, comprehensive care facility in the state of
Missouri and serves over 14,000 individuals and pets each year. Today, hundreds
of domestic violence survivors, their children and pets, seek shelter while
escaping violence each year. Thousands more are served outside of shelter
through groundbreaking programs. Their initiatives are centered around three
pillars – Keeping Families Safe, Creating a Safer Community and Ending the Cycle
of Violence.
In January,
Ameristar Kansas City set out donation boxes at each casino entrance where
guests could donate their unused slot vouchers. Their efforts raised over $800 to
support this important organization’s nutrition program, which feeds nearly 450
individuals and children daily.
"The success of Rose Brooks’ nutrition program is demonstrated by the fact that fresh and healthy meals are always prepared 365 days a year." Scott Mason, Rose Brooks Center's Marketing Director explains its impact on survivors. "It's because of those that support us through donations of time and funds that our chefs are able to create meals which support the shelter residents’ healing process. The act of eating a meal in a peaceful environment is such a large part of healing from trauma."
